At Monrovia Unified School District, supporting student success means more than what happens in the classroom. It also means ensuring every student feels supported, connected and empowered to reach their full potential. For Alana Elliott, that commitment is at the heart of her work, and has earned her recognition as L.A. County School Counselor of the Year.
As a counselor at Monroe Elementary, Elliott supports students through individual and group counseling, classroom lessons, and a student leadership program. Her work also extends beyond the school day, as she organizes family engagement events and collaborates with school staff to identify and address the needs of the broader school community.
“My goal as an elementary school counselor is to make sure students feel seen, heard, and supported,” Elliott said. “I try to help students develop the tools and strategies they need to handle any challenges that may come their way.”
Elliott has played a particularly important role in expanding access to student support at Monrovia Unified. As one of the district’s first elementary school counselors assigned full time to a single school, she has helped establish a more consistent counseling presence for students, ensuring they have opportunities to develop the social and emotional skills that contribute to a positive learning experience.
“Alana’s recognition as the 2026 School Counselor of the Year is incredibly well-deserved,” said MUSD Superintendent Dr. Paula Hart Rodas. “Whether she is working one-on-one with a struggling child, running leadership groups, or connecting with families, Alana has brought a level of care and presence that has transformed our school community.”
Elliott is also a finalist for the California Association of School Counselors’ 2027 School Counselor of the Year award and serves as a CASC School Counselor Emerging Leader, reflecting her commitment to the counseling profession and the students she serves.
Her recognition highlights the important role school counselors play in creating supportive learning environments, strengthening family partnerships and helping students navigate daily challenges.
Monrovia Unified is proud to celebrate Elliott’s achievement and the meaningful difference she makes in the lives of students and families every day.
