2.28.22 Superintendent Update: Masks optional starting March 12th

Dear Monrovia Unified School District Family,

This morning, Governor Newsom and the California Department of Public Health (CDPH) announced that masks will no longer be required, but strongly recommended, in schools and childcare settings effective Saturday, March 12. The Los Angeles County Department of Public Health (LACDPH) indicated in a statement today that its school guidance on masks will align with the state.

Since the beginning of the pandemic, the Monrovia Unified School District has always closely adhered to the requirements given to us from CDPH and LACDPH. As such, beginning Saturday, March 12, masks will be optional in our schools. The choice made by individuals moving forward from that point to continue wearing them or not should be respected without fear of being judged by others.

As additional information that is pertinent to this issue becomes available in the coming days, we will update you as soon as possible.

Sincerely,

Ryan D. Smith, Ed.D.
Superintendent
