Dr. Thorossian's April Superintendent Update

Dear Monrovia Unified Community,

We miss you all. It has been over a month since we began distance learning and though we have heard of its success, it does not compare to having our students at school every day.

I am thankful for your continued engagement, support, and flexibility. We have been busy recreating our educational system in the virtual world, and your patience through all of it has been appreciated.

Monrovia Unified Instructional Services Newsletter Issue 3

April 27, 2020

Dear Parents,

Please know that YOU are doing all you can for your kids and that this is a truly unique time for everyone. It is trying for even the most organized professionals to fulfil their work duties from home, juggle finances, monitor your new “homeschool students”, provide childcare and do all you can to keep your family safe during this pandemic.

I encourage you to show “Grace & Flexibility” on yourself at home during this time in addition to your children, their teachers and the community. I personally have a granddaughter who is in kindergarten and instantly she had the sense that she was on summer vacation! Her mother has her at the dining room table now working on her daily lessons with much encouragement. This continues to be an important time of learning and growth for all students.

An Update from Monrovia Unified Regarding Extended Dismissal Grading Policy

April 23, 2020

Dear Monrovia Unified Students and Families,

Thank you for your continued engagement, support, and flexibility as we recreate our brick and mortar educational system in the virtual world. After students were dismissed in March, we moved quickly to ensure the continuity of instruction. The effort was aimed not only to ensure academic progress, but also to maintain our connections with our students.

Since then, we have been researching and discussing best practices in some of the more technical aspects of this new platform of instruction delivery – especially in the assignment of grades.

Dear Parents,

I hope that this newsletter finds you enjoying moments with your children this week. As we continue to stay safer at home, it is important to find times to connect over things other than just school work. I hope you and your family were able to see the teachers in the car parade last Friday. They miss the kids so much. One staff prepared a collage that I am sharing in this newsletter. It is the expression of every teacher in our district.
