MUSD Board of Education - Consolidation Update

Monrovia, CA (February 4, 2025) -  Last night, the Monrovia Unified School District Board of Education held a special meeting and voted to approve the District’s recommendation to consolidate the two middle schools, Santa Fe Computer Science Magnet School and Clifton Middle School as part of the Fiscal Stabilization Plan. Clifton Middle School will remain open and the Santa Fe Computer Magnet School will close. The consolidation will begin in August, 2026, for the 2026-2027 school year.

The board rescinded a motion made at the January 21 meeting to postpone and further study the recommendation.

Additional details about the need for expenditure reductions, data, the series of community input meetings, survey results, the consolidation recommendation presentation, and the subsequent board meeting updates, are provided on the MUSD website School Consolidation Community Information.

The consolidation recommendation supports the District’s Fiscal Stabilization Plan, which was developed to address the expenditure reductions required by the Los Angeles County Office of Education in June 2024.

Next steps will focus on the process of merging two schools.  At this time, the Board of Education does not intend to sell the Santa Fe property. To keep this facility open and to receive future funding for facility improvements, the District plans to move the smaller staff and students from Canyon Oaks High School and Mountain Park School to this location. Efforts are underway to convene a  community facility advisory coalition.

More information will be provided on an ongoing basis.
