Board of Education Organizational Meeting

During the Annual Organizational Meeting, the Monrovia Unified Board of Education new officers for 2024. The changes are as follows:

Recognitions

The Monrovia Unified Board of Education invited students from Monroe Elementary School to lead the Pledge of Allegiance in English and Spanish at its December meeting. The students provided school updates to the Board members and did an outstanding job kicking off our meeting.

Board members highlighted the latest Advanced Placement Scholars at Monrovia High School. Every fall, the AP Program recognizes high school students who have demonstrated outstanding college-level achievement through their performance on multiple AP Exams. Many of these students are already at their respective universities or post-high school institutions, so they could not attend.

The following students received one of three titles depending on the number of tests they took and the grades they received.

The Board also recognized Lupe Davis, Board Appointee to the Personnel Commission, for 23 years of service to the Monrovia Unified School District. Monrovia Unified School District expresses deep gratitude for her invaluable contributions, and the entire community wishes Lupe Davis all the best in her well-deserved retirement.

Actions Taken by the Board of Education

The Board of Education approved a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with the Boys and Girls Club of the Foothills (BGCF), allowing the BGCF to provide AVID Tutors to MUSD Middle Schools for a term beginning December 14, 2023, through June 30, 2024. These tutors will work closely with teachers and principals to implement the AVID curriculum and monitor student progress regularly.

The Board approved the Music Theater International (MTI) contract for the production of the musical Finding Nemo, Jr. for Wild Rose School of the Creative Arts Spring Musical. This contract ensures the school and students have everything they need for a fantastic Spring Musical.

Board members approved an MOU to start a partnership with PCS Family Services, Inc. This partnership will provide PCS clients with a successful Medi-Cal Peer Support Specialist Training Program and other wrap-around educational services that result in PCS clients receiving jobs and Monrovia Community Adult School (MCAS) earning training funds.

The Board of Education approved steps to start roofing replacements for the remaining MUSD sites that need roof upgrades. Clifton and Wild Rose completed their roof projects during the summer of 2023. Board members authorized the following agreements for these projects:

The Board appointed Gina Peck-Sobolewski as the Board of Education appointee to the Personnel Commission. She will be filling the vacant position left behind by Lupe Davis. Please help us congratulate Gina Peck-Sobolewski on her appointment to the MUSD Personnel Commission!

Staff Presentations to the Board of Education

2023-2024 First Interim Financial Report

The Board of Education received a staff presentation regarding the 2023-24 First Interim Financial Report. Education Code requires each District to file interim reports twice each fiscal year to give the District, county, state, and other community partners a snapshot of the District’s financial status.
