MUSD Board of Education Meeting Highlights for February 2022


Recognitions


In celebration of the Lunar New Year, Plymouth Elementary students performed a Lion Dance and played music for the Board of Education. The purpose of the performance is to bring good luck to everyone in honor of the holiday. The Dragons put on an amazing show for our Board and community members.

The Board also invited a student from Monroe Elementary to lead the February 23 meeting’s Pledge of Allegiance. Mighty Lion Lily Van Der Molen did an excellent job starting the meeting off right.

MHS Senior Tamika Samuels was recognized by the Board of Education for being awarded the Posse Scholarship. Samuels will be using the 4-year, full-tuition scholarship to attend Middlebury College in Vermont. Her goal is to eventually attend medical school and become a pediatrician to help close the healthcare gap for communities in-need. Way to go, Tamika Samuels!

The Board highlighted Employees of the Month for February from two different school sites. Kristine Gomez and Raul Ochoa from Clifton Middle School (first picture) and Araceli Briones and Peter Davis from MHS (second picture) were all celebrated by the Board. All four of the employees were nominated for their outstanding work ethic and teamwork they bring to school everyday.

Last but certainly not least, the Board recognized the MHS Football Team for their undefeated 10-0 season and being crowned the Rio Hondo League champs. Dynamic QB/WR duo Noah Rodriguez and Carlos Hernandez were joined by their coaches Chris Williams and Dan Banzet to accept recognition from the Board. 

 

Monrovia football team players and coaches are recognized for their undefeated 10-0 season. The team also were crowned the Rio Hondo League Champions.



Actions Taken by the Board of Education


The Board of Education adopted Resolution No. 2122-16, recognizing the month

of February, as "Black History Month," celebrating the contribution of African Americans to

society and Monrovia Unified School District.


The Board of Education adopted Resolution No. 2122-17, proclaiming the week of

March 7-11, 2022, as "National School Breakfast Week," and declaring that breakfast served

during National School Breakfast Week will continue to be offered free to all Monrovia Unified

School District students and neighboring community children through the Seamless Summer

Option meal program.


The Board approved an agreement with Davis Demographics for school site locator software. This will allow families to type in their address and easily find which school boundaries they currently live in. Once processed, this will be added to the district website.

Assistant Superintendent of Business Services Dana Smith had multiple presentations for the Board of Education.
