Dr. Thorossian's June Superintendent Update

We are proud of our students and look forward to celebrating their future successes as they advance through Monrovia Unified and move on to higher education or to serve their country.

Our students told stories about their time in Monrovia Unified and shared what it means to be a part of our District family. We are proud of our 2019 graduates and we wish them success in everything they do as they pursue post-secondary education and careers.

In June, we also celebrated our eighth-grade students who will be transitioning to Monrovia High School. Students were honored with awards and medals for their achievements during the school year. We also had the opportunity to celebrate our elementary school students during promotion ceremonies that highlighted the students’ successes throughout the year. We wish our students the best of luck as they move up in grade level and transition to new schools, as well.

As we enjoy our time off this summer, I want to encourage our students and families to explore all of the wonderful activities around our community, while also focusing on summer enrichment to ensure a smooth transition back to school.

Monrovia Unified offers a variety of enrichment programs during the summer, as do Monrovia’s Public Library and Monrovia’s Library Foundation. Summer enrichment programs keep our students’ minds active.

In August, the District will hold its ninth annual Summer Music and Theater Institute, when 100 of our students will dive into classes focused on vocal and instrumental music instruction, theater and rhythm, among others. This institute is a wonderful experience for our students. The instruments used are provided by the District and the institute is free. For more information, call the District office at (626) 471-2000.

We are excited for a wonderful summer and look forward to welcoming our students back on Aug. 14 for another successful school year!

Sincerely,

Dr. Katherine Thorossian
Superintendent
