Monrovia Unified to Celebrate Class of 2017 with Graduation Ceremonies

 
WHAT: Monrovia Unified School District will host two graduation ceremonies celebrating the achievements of its Class of 2017. Canyon Oaks High School and Mountain Park School will hold a ceremony at the Monrovia Community Center for 45 seniors. Monrovia High School will hold a ceremony for its 381 graduating seniors at the school’s Wildcat Stadium.
 
WHEN: 6 p.m. Tuesday, June 6: Canyon Oaks High School/Mountain Park School ceremony, Monrovia Community Center.
7 p.m. Wednesday, June 7: Monrovia High School ceremony, Wildcat Stadium.

MORE: The graduating seniors from all three schools will attend myriad prestigious colleges across the country, including UCLA, Colorado State University, UC Berkeley and Iowa State University.
 
Some 75 of Monrovia High’s seniors have received more than $88,000 in scholarships, while four of the Canyon Oaks High and Mountain Park School seniors have received more than $8,000 in scholarships.

  • Ashley Sanchez, Mountain Park School, attending UCLA on a soccer scholarship
  • Branden Lopez, Canyon Oaks High, attending Cal State L.A.
  • Caitlynne Navarro-White, Mountain Park School, attending Cal State Long Beach on a water polo scholarship
 
Top Monrovia High School seniors and special recognitions:
  • Ivan Alvarado, valedictorian, 4.46 GPA, attending UC Berkeley
  • Frances Montemayor, salutatorian, 4.43 GPA, attending UCLA
  • 82 seniors are graduates of the Math and Science Academy
  • 97 seniors will receive the Golden State Seal Merit diploma for academic excellence
  • 31 seniors will graduate with the state Seal of Biliteracy
