Recognitions

At its March meetings, the Monrovia Unified School District Board of Education invited students from Wild Rose School of Creative Arts and Mayflower Elementary to lead the Pledge of Allegiance. They updated Board members on their work, and both groups of students did a fantastic job starting our Board meeting.

The Board of Education & the Monrovia Chamber of Commerce congratulated the following employees on being recipients of Monrovia Unified School District's "Employees of the Month" for March:

Board Members adopted Resolution No. 2223-16, recognizing March 5-11, 2023, as "National School Social Work Week," celebrating the contribution of school social workers to Monrovia Unified School District students. The social worker team plays a crucial role in supporting our school sites and students who need help. Thank you for all that you do!

Actions Taken by the Board of Education

The Board of Education approved an agreement with Food ED to create and care for the outdoor learning spaces at each of the five elementary school sites. Our sites will utilize these spaces for garden and food science programs, outdoor literacy gardens, and calming spaces to promote students' social-emotional well-being. The contract will cover the one-time infrastructure projects for the remainder of the 2022-23 school year for each site.

The Board also approved an agreement with Food ED to build a garden space at Clifton Middle School to support an integrated garden and food science program for students. This new agreement will provide a more beneficial garden environment for the Clifton community while removing grass and being more ecologically conscious.

Board members approved the initial community members to the Measure MM Citizens’ Oversight Committee (COC). The COC will monitor the progress of Bond projects and provide information to the public on Bond projects and expenditures of Bond funds. For more information on the COC, please visit our website.

The Board of Education approved the job description for the Alternative Education Principal. Canyon Oaks High School (COHS) and Mountain Park Independent Study (MPIS) are the Alternative Education Programs serving the students of the Monrovia Unified School District.

The Board adopted Resolution No. 2223-17, proclaiming the week of March 6-10, 2023, as "National School Breakfast Week," and declaring that breakfast served during National School Breakfast Week will continue to be offered free to all Monrovia Unified School District students.

2021-22 Audit Report - Independent Auditors’ Report

The Board of Education received an update regarding the 2021-22 Audit Report from Christy White, an independent auditor that serves K-12 schools in California. The discussion and analysis of Monrovia Unified School District’s (District) financial performance provides an overview of the District’s financial activities for the fiscal year ending June 30, 2022.

Special Education Programs Update - Alma R. Ulloa, Executive Director of Special Education

The Board received an update regarding the Special Education (SPED) Program at Monrovia Unified. The update includes information regarding MUSD SPED demographics, staffing, focus area, and next steps to enhance the program.

Second Interim Report for the 2022-23 Fiscal Year - Jessica M. Garcia, Assistant Superintendent of Business Services

The Board of Education received the second interim report for the 2022-23 fiscal year. Interim reports give the District, County, State, and other community partners a snapshot of the District’s financial status. This report includes multiple projects' financial status through June 30, assuming the funds appropriated are spent as planned.

Board Members received an update regarding Measure MM. The update recaps where the measure currently stands and the next steps that must be taken by the district and the citizen oversight committee.
