Dr. Thorossian's February Superintendent Update

We are excited to announce a Parent Preview Night for transitional kindergarten and kindergarten enrollment for Monday, March 18 at the district office. Parents can learn more about each of our elementary schools and the types of programs available, meet with principals, and have the opportunity to address questions about enrollment for TK/K. We offer exceptional programs for our TK/K students, including visual and performing arts at each school and innovative programs such as Code to the Future, Spanish Dual Immersion, and Mandarin Dual Immersion.

February activities at our middle schools demonstrate Monrovia Unified’s strong focus on literacy. At Clifton, students were encouraged to find their voice during an assembly with Erin Gruwell, the teacher who was featured in the film “Freedom Writers” and who transformed the lives of her students through writing.

Congratulations also go to Santa Fe as the school sends seventh-grader Jose Dawis to compete in the L.A. Regional Scripps Spelling Bee and celebrates 16 students being published in the Anthology of Poetry by Young Americans!

Our schools feature award-winning robotics programs. Participating in robotics prepares students for post-secondary education and how to be competitive in the job market. Five Monrovia Unified robotics teams have earned a spot in the Los Angeles Regional Tournament on March 9, when they will control robots they have designed, built, and programmed. Best wishes to our students as they move forward in the competition!

I would like to acknowledge that the success of our students is an outcome of our exceptionally dedicated teachers and support staff, as well as the involvement of our parents and school community. Thank you for all you do to prepare our students for their future!

Sincerely,
Dr. Katherine Thorossian
Superintendent
