Letter from the Superintendent to the Monrovia Unified Community

Our heartfelt prayers and thoughts go out to their family and friends.

As we grapple with this tragic news, which will affect so many in our tight-knit community, I want to note upfront that counseling support will be offered on campus for our students and staff.

The death of a student is difficult to accept and is likely to generate high levels of distress, especially among our students. Many of our children have little experience coping with such a loss and may be confused about how to express their grief.

Monrovia Unified is dedicated to supporting the social and emotional well-being of our students. If you feel your children are struggling with this loss, please encourage them to discuss their thoughts and feelings, and to take advantage of the counseling services that will be available. If you should need assistance in addressing the situation, please also reach out to our team.

This will be a difficult time for us all.  Being part of a strong, compassionate community will help each of us endure.

Sincerely,
Katherine Thorossian,
Monrovia Unified School District Superintendent
