AVID

The Monrovia Unified School District believes all students should have the opportunity to be college-ready.  The AVID program (Advancement Via Individual Determination) at Clifton Middle School, Santa Fe Computer Science Magnet School, and Monrovia High School, prepares students who will be the first in their families to go to college and are often from student groups that are traditionally underrepresented in higher education. AVID students and teachers participate in the AVID Elective course where teachers receive additional training to support AVID students’ skills in writing, inquiry, collaboration, organization, and reading (WICOR). The AVID elective lays the foundation for teaching practices, high expectations, and opportunities to develop knowledge that puts AVID students on the path to college and career success in high school and beyond.
