About Monrovia Schools
Monrovia
Unified School District is located in the city of Monrovia, California approximately
20
miles northeast of the city of Los Angeles, at the base of the beautiful
San Gabriel mountain range.
The District has an Early Learning Center which houses a Child Development
Program and a Pre-K Program. The District also has five elementary schools, two
middle schools, one
comprehensive high school, one continuation high school,
one alternative program campus, which houses an Independent Study Program,
a Home Study Program, and an Opportunity Program, as well as a large, active
adult education program. Monrovia Unified
School District covers the community of Monrovia, and portions of Arcadia
and Duarte.
The Monrovia Schools are proud of their many recent accomplishments and recognitions.
To name a few...
- Winner of the California School Board Association Golden Bell Award for an exemplary
safety program.
- Visit by the President of the United States in recognition for achievements with
"Safe City / Safe Schools" program.
- Bradoaks Elementary School, Mayflower Elementary School, Monroe
Elementary School, Wild Rose Elementary School, and Clifton Middle School designated as California Distinguished Schools. Santa Fe Middle School is a candidate for the 2007 California Distinguished School Award.
- Monroe Elementary School and Plymouth Elementary School designated as
Title 1 Achieving Schools for 2 years in a row
- Mayflower Elementary School designated as a Title 1 Achieving School.
About Our Community
Monrovia has
been named
"All American City" by the National Civic League, the highest honor
and most prestigious award that can go to an American community. It means
that Monrovia
demonstrated to the entire nation that a town of diverse people can face
and solve its problems through cooperation, broad-based participation, public-private
partnerships, and
creative solutions. Across the country, Monrovians are recognized as people
who work well together and that life here is better because of what we have
accomplished.
Monrovia covers 13.7 square miles and has approximately 38,100 residents. The community is
culturally diverse with a 43% minority population. The city of Monrovia and the
schools work closely and cooperatively to provide all residents with a positive learning
environment and powerful learning experiences.
