{librarybooks} Monrovia High School has traditional six period day that supports a rigorous academic program while allowing students to participate in electives. Six fifty-seven minute periods encompass the school day with the exception of zero period. MHS has a strong ROP program that allows real world experience for both college and career bound students.
The school has experienced an increase of 77points on the school-wide API score in a five-year period. The percent of students who score at the proficient or higher levels in mathematics and language arts exceeds the targets established by No Child Left Behind (NCLB). Monrovia High School has an excellent pass rate for 10th grade students who take the California High School Exit Exam (CAHSEE) for the first time (83% in English/Language Arts and 87% in Mathematics).
Monrovia High School’s College-Going Culture activities are part of the district’s program that received the Golden Bell award from the California School Boards Association (CSBA). The activities include college fairs, college visits, college speakers, college application workshop, financial aide workshop and an after school SAT prep course.
The school has increased the number of students who take the SAT and is a designated test site for the College Board’s administration of the SAT. The number of scholarships received by students continues to increase and the number of students accepted by college and universities is increasing as well. 96% of the class of 2011 will go on to post-secondary education and this graduating class has been accepted to over 155 schools nationwide. Among the colleges and universities of acceptance are: UCLA, UC Santa Barbara, UC Irvine, UC San Diego, UC Berkeley, Georgetown, Dartmouth, UC Santa Cruz, N.Y.U., George Mason University, Tufts, Azusa Pacific University, and the University of Georgia. |
